RECRUITING VOLUNTEER PARK PATROL MEMBERS ~
The City of
Leon Valley has created a volunteer Park Patrol Program to help manage
our recreational and trail areas within the city. The volunteers will
be called upon to assist staff in providing a safe environment for park
patrons. The Park Patrol
volunteers selected to participate in the program will receive basic
training in various subjects related to the position, including public
relations, first aid, CPR, policies and procedures, and special event
assistance. As a Park Patrol
Volunteer, the goal is to enforce park rules, enhance visitor safety,
and promote park programs and visitor services offered. Park Patrol
volunteers will develop a special sense of pride, knowing they are
contributing to the community and encouraging families to “Come Play in
Our Parks.”

Going Green!
The City Council,
in an effort to promote responsible environmental stewardship, has resolved to
“Go Green” with our new “El Verde by 2020” resolution. Other green
initiatives include encouragement of rainwater harvesting, tree preservation
and, of course, increasing our recycling efforts. In fact, the major focus of
this year’s Earthwise Living Day will be on recycling the easy way. The event
will be held on February 23, 2008 (last Saturday in February),
6427 Evers Road (Community Center), from 9:30 am to 1:00 pm.
The Council was recently
granted the American Institute of Architects Sustainable Design Assessment,
which will focus on developing a sustainable community. This grant will bring
together a multidisciplinary team of professionals to work with citizens and
stakeholders through an intensive planning process, to develop a vision and
framework for a sustainable future. In additional to these programs, the Council
will soon be discussing the benefits of a green building program and how that
will affect commercial and residential builders. Check out our new programs
below and look for more initiatives in the near future!

NEW and EXCITING Program
Leon Valley Neighbors On Watch (LVNOW)
The Leon Valley City Council recently
approved the creation of a volunteer Code Enforcement Program to assist with
keeping our city clean, neat and beautiful. Volunteers will be tasked with
working a number of hours per month, patrolling the various neighborhoods and
commercial areas looking for violations such as high weeds and grass, low tree
limbs, junked vehicles, illegal dumping, nuisance signage and trash/debris. The
volunteers will either place hangtags on the homeowner’s door or report more
serious violations to the Code Enforcement Officer, who will then contact the
property owner for abatement. We expect the program to start in January of 2008.
If you or someone you know are interested
in volunteering for this program, they may download the application from
Forms & Permits
section of this website or contact Kristie Flores at 684-1391 x 227,
or email to k.flores@leonvalleytexas.gov
