In the early 1800's, Leon
Valley was settled by ranchers and farmers who gave us a colorful history and a
tradition that continues today - we welcome visitors and newcomers to stay and
become part of our friendly community. That's why our "Valley of the Lions"
which began as a stage coach stop, said to be "a hard day's ride to San
Antonio", has become a thriving incorporated
city
of 9,239 people, according to the 2000 US Census.

Located in northwest Bexar
County and surrounded by San Antonio, we offer both "small town hospitality and
big city advantages" to guests and residents. As a full-service city, we offer
the small town hospitality of prompt and professional services, and
community-wide events. As a suburb of a major city, we offer nearby
entertainment and cultural experiences, as well as employment opportunities.
Leon Valley is surrounded by major growth and employment generators such as
USAA , an Insurance and Financial Services Company,
Sea World Texas,
Six Flags Fiesta Texas,
Ingram Park Mall,
University of Texas at San Antonio,
St. Mary's
University and the
South Texas
Medical Center.
Leon Valley is a magnet for retail, commercial, and upscale residential growth.

Leon Valley Legacy
Legend has it that the Leon Valley area was once the site of a stagecoach
stop between Bandera and San Antonio, with the first settlers arriving in the
early 1800s. According to the tale, Leon Valley was considered a dangerous area
for wagons and stagecoaches due to the once continuously running Leon and
Huebner Creeks. Early
pioneers struggled against the harsh life of the Hill Country, sharing the area
with roaming mountain lions and native Tonkawa Indians.
This
pioneering spirit was upheld in 1952, when a group of local residents,
responding to possible annexation to the City of San Antonio, filed a petition
to incorporate the Leon Valley area.
Leon
Valley has since matured into an exemplary community, continuing in the
trailblazing legacy with a nationally recognized recycling program—the first in
Bexar County and many other "firsts" in quality services for citizens and guests
Today the legacy prevails as Leon Valley
maintains a leadership position in both the suburban and metropolitan
communities.
