- all applications for name to appear on the May 8, 2010 General
Election ballot must be notarized, turned in and receipted
with the City Secretary before 5:00 p.m.
March 8, 2010 -
5:15 p.m.
- drawing for place on ballot - Council Chambers - all candidates
invited to attend.
March 15, 2010
- 5:00p.m.
- all applications for write-in candidates, who want to be considered by
the voters in the May 8, 2010 General Election, must be notarized,
turned in and receipted with the City Secretary before 5:00 p.m.
March 16, 2010
- 5:00 p.m. -
last day for a candidate to have a withdrawal request received by the
City Secretary - this will remove a candidate from consideration in the
May 8, 2010 General Election - must be receipted in by the City
Secretary by 5:00 p.m. on this date..

Leon
Valley Volksmarch is coming - March 13, 2010 -
Leon Valley Library - start point 6425 Evers road - 8 am - noon - start
times - finish by 3 pm
Once
again, it's time for the LEON VALLEY VOLKSMARCH again! The Randolph
Roadrunners Volkssport Club and the City of Leon Valley are sponsoring
this family event - the walk is free, but if you want IVV credit -
there is a $3.00 cost. The trail will be along park trails and city
sidewalks - mostly flat except
for a few gentle rolling up and down grades and is suitable for
strollers. This is a non-competitive walk, jog or run at your own pace
and open to all! Families
are encourage to participate as a family fitness event - Children under
age 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Everyone registers for a START
CARD and turn it in at the FINISH. This VOLKSMARCH will be one 10 km
walk - route may be walked twice on the same start card for 20 km
distance credit.

SPRING Book Sale - Library Annex - ONLY TODAY - MARCH 5TH AND
TOMORROW - MARCH 6TH LEFT! 10 am - 6 pm
This
Thursday starts the Spring Book Sale at the Library Annex at the corner
of Poss Road and Evers Road. Gently used books are collected throughout
the year - adults and children, fiction and non-fiction, all types of
books for the Friends of the Library's book sales. Great bargains and
excellent selection. Sales end on Saturday at 6 pm - so mark your
calendars now! Proceeds from these book sales benefit the Leon Valley
public library programs, equipment and expansion plans.

Northwest Senior Citizens Club Annual Rummage Sale - Leon Valley
Community Center - Saturday, March 6, 2010 from 9 am - 3 pm
The
Northwest Senior Citizens Club of Leon Valley who meet Monday - Friday
at our Community Center for exercise, cards, luncheons, games, and
general fellowship and fun - have announced their Annual Rummage Sale to
be held next Saturday from 9 am - 3 pm. This non-profit organization
offers a great place
for our area Seniors to meet new friends and keep in touch with old
friends. Their monthly calendar of events are posted on the City's

The
word is out and they've told us, "Come look for some great bargains -
they will have everything from kitchen items, lamps, jewelry, dolls,

more! We will also have food available and a wonderful bake sale."
This is another great
opportunity to recycle! The "not wants" may be what you want!
Trade and Market Days also makes a return on Saturday, March 13,
2010 at the Leon Valley Community and Conference Centers

Residents will
begin the gathering, clipping, cleaning for this year's Spring Clean
Up. Beginning on March 15th - you can put your items out for the next
week's pickup. Waste Management's truck will come down your street once
to make pickups - so have everything at the curbside by 7:00 am -
Monday, March 22nd.
Please note
there is a size limit of 8 cubic yards, which is roughly a pile of
debris 6 ft X 6 ft X 6 ft., for your items at curbside - you will
need to contact Waste Management for a personal pickup if you have too
much to put out.
REMEMBER
- next cleanup isn't until the Fall 2010 - so this is your opportunity
to have that old hot water heater, broken dresser, old mattress,
branches, broken outdoor chair - removed.

Spring Clean Up Week - March 15 - 21, 2010 with collection
beginning at
7:00 a.m. - Monday, March 22, 2010
Postcards
will be arriving soon at your mailbox to let you know the details of the
Spring Clean Up Week for 2010. The collection vehicles will only pass
down each street ONCE and will proceed until the entire City Has been
collected.
